As interest in health and wellness grows, more people are embracing a sober-curious or alcohol-free lifestyle. Alcohol is a Group 1 carcinogen, meaning even small amounts can increase the risk of certain cancers. Cutting back certainly offers plenty of health benefits – and with a growing range of alcohol-free alternatives, making the switch has never been easier.

The quality of alcohol-free wine, beer and spirits has come a long way, with many closely mimicking the taste of their alcoholic counterparts.


There are plenty of low-sugar options too – just be sure to check the label, as some pre-mixed drinks contain added sweeteners like erythritol that may cause digestive discomfort if consumed in large amounts.


Many bars and restaurants offer a selection of alcohol-free mocktails, or you can make your own at home using muddled fruit, sparkling water, and a splash of fresh juice. Fermented kombucha is another refreshing low-sugar alternative to alcohol. You could also brew herbal teas like hibiscus or peppermint, and serve over ice with lemon. Or jazz up sparkling water or coconut water with fresh fruit, cucumber or a splash of 100 per cent fruit juice for natural sweetness. Herbs like mint, basil, or rosemary add a refreshing touch. The key is finding drinks that feel special – have fun experimenting!
